Acupuncture is a part of traditional Chinese medicine with a long history of continued success in medical treatment. Very fine, hair-thin, pre-sterilized, single-use and disposable needles are inserted throughout the body at very specific locations called acupoints. Stimulating these acupoints with the needles balances the body’s energetic systems promoting healing in the body. A prescription of acupoints is chosen depending on your diagnosis.

Your diagnosis:

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, your diagnosis comes primarily from:

   - Asking
   - Looking
   - Palpating

Asking - I will take the time to ask you numerous questions regarding the details of your condition. On following visits, the questions will focus on how your condition has changed and if anything new has come up.

Looking - I will look at key areas and those affected areas for color and structural differences. I will also look at the surface of your tongue. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the tongue reflects what’s going on internally with your body.

Palpating - I will feel your pulses at your wrists and, if necessary, for sensitive spots in any affected areas. "Reading" your pulses and feeling for sensitive spots in the affected areas gives me insight on how your condition needs to be treated.

I put all of this information together (your answers to the questions, looking at your tongue, and reading your pulses) and formulate a diagnosis for your condition. Next, I select the appropriate acupoints to correct your condition and the treatment then follows.

What can Acupuncture treat?

Here is a sample of what Acupuncture can treat:

   Musculoskeletal conditions
(including back pain, neck pain, tendonitis and arthritis)

   Headaches and Migraines
   Stress
   Colds and Flu
   Allergies
   Gastrointestinal conditions
   Gynecological conditions
      (including PMS, painful menstruation, irregular
      menstruation, and menopausal symptoms)

   Anxiety and Depression

(If you don't see your condition, please call or email to ask about it.)

What else is used during acupuncture treatments?

In addition to the needles, other methods of treatment are sometimes used. These methods can include moxibustion (heat therapy), electro-acupuncture, tui na (Chinese massage), qi gong (breathing exercises), Craniosacral Therapy, cupping, or gua sha (skin kneading). Depending on your condition, I may also suggest the use of the Aqua Massage dry hydrotherapy machine as a way to enhance your treatment.

These methods may be used during an acupuncture treatment and/or may be part of your "homework" in-between visits.
