In November of 2004, New Hampshire's WMUR Channel 9 News broadcasted a special report about Chris and his alternative treatment for adult and childhood ADD/ADHD.
This treatment is called auricular acupressure, and it does not involve inserting acupuncture needles. It is a safe, effective and inexpensive treatment. A tiny gold-covered bead is placed on a specific acupoint on the back of the ear. Its gold composition, as well as the pressure of the bead, stimulate the point, which reduce the symptoms of ADD/ADHD. Some of the affects achieved by this procedure include reduced fidgetiness and edginess, enhanced focus and concentration, and a marked increase in one's overall sense of calm and well-being. One advantage to this therapy is that the gold acupressure bead works for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
After the initial course of treatment, the maintenance schedule is simple and straight-forward. If the negative behaviors begin to resurface, additional bead placement therapy can continue. Many children are able to sense when this is occurring and ask for additional treatments themselves.
Preliminary studies have been conducted at Lincoln Hospital (Bronx, NY) and at Reed Academy (Framingham, MA), a residential school for boys with serious behavioral health problems. At Lincoln Hospital, Michael O. Smith MD, director of acupuncture and the substance abuse program, found impressive results. There were many cases where patients on medication for ADD/ADHD were not responding to the drugs. The addition of the acupressure bead helped their symptoms considerably. At the Reed Academy, 13 boys with ADD/ADHD took part in the study. The majority of these boys had significantly favorable results with the addition of the acupressure bead.

Cost: The initial course of therapy is for six weeks and the cost is $120. This includes an evaluation and six weekly office visits to monitor progress. Additional office visits for this therapy are $10 per visit.
